SO HOW MUCH DOES IT COST, ALREADY...
It costs what it costs. I know that must sound ridiculous, but it's true.
You tell us your budget. We'll tell you what's possible for that amount.
Our prices include graphic design, copywriting, image design & manipulation... the more of it we have to do for you, the more your site will cost - you can CUT COSTS by providing us with exact copy, pre-scanned/treated images, existing pages & graphics you may have, etc.
Well, you can ballpark it yourself. The AVERAGE site we build runs in the neighbourhood of 25-45 hours to get from idea 1 to a basic working site. Then we have to work with copy & content, which again - the more final it is when you send it to us, the faster we can go... Generally speaking: 15-25 hours.
Note we said average... we've done fully functioning sites in 2 hours, and we done tough, convoluted jobs that have taken 225 hours... We do our best to stick within your budget, as we know how important that is.
After the design & working site have been completed, we have maintenance. Maintenance is mainly updating & revisions of copy & content, adding more pages as needed. It can also include tweaking bits & pieces, refining structure as we go along, minor changes that we determine aren't quite right after some use.
Maintenance is $30/hr USD. It does not include any NEW design work.
Depending on what we do with your site, and how much you want to be involved, it is possible for you to maintain it yourself to a certain degree. That will be up to you. We don't generally recommend that to our clients, as you have better things to focus on in building your business - but if budget is a concern, talk with us.. we have lived on Kraft Dinner... we know how that works. Do NOT let budget constraints stand in your way of a great website. We can take payments, and will consider barters too.
How we save you money:
We feel that as designers & developers we have a responsibility to use all the tools available to us to keep your costs down. We DO NOT feel it's necessary to constantly re-invent the wheel, so if there is a pre-existing function, script, system, package, product that we feel can be easily adapted & implemented to accomplish our goal, we will use that rather than start from scratch. It makes fiscal sense. Sometimes it's simply necessary to start from scratch, but in our experience, MOST things our clients need have already been done in some way or other.
A lot of those things are FREE. It's called "Open Source" and it is one of the finer points of the internet culture. If you're interested, or if we need to use some of it, we'll tell you all about it.
We are huge fans of the talented artists at istockphoto.com and buy a lot of images from them to help our clients look great. We're the first to admit we can't be all things to all people... so we take advantage the best support we can find to help achieve your vision. It's good time & cost management for everyone.
We work relatively quickly, apparently. At least that's what we've been told. That's not without it's price, sometimes we go too quickly... mistakes happen... but like we said before, we fix those at our cost.
If we gauge that we can't provide a piece fo the puzzle effectively or cost efficiently, we'll hire someone else who can. We don't make you pay for our inexperience with a new technology or a programming bug that's beyond us - that would just be stupid. We learn the new stuff on our own time, and hire other professionals to help us deliver ON TIME.
